Gwendolym Hannam

Senior Restoration Specialist, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife

I can't say enough about my experience working with Ben and Olam Films. Ben supported us in bringing to life a short film focused on documenting Indigenous-led work happening across BC. We worked with multiple communities and shot on-location. It was our first time making a film, and Ben was an extraordinary support throughout the process. He helped us clarify our overall vision, while still ensuring that community members were empowered to tell the stories they wanted to tell, and that their stories were told right. He even went above and beyond to provide multiple communities with their own mini films, pro bono. Ben is a highly ethical storyteller and we hope to collaborate again in the future.

BC Lead, MakeWay Foundation

Our environmental non-profit has worked with Olam films for the better part of a year, and will continue to work together for the foreseeable future. They have been integral in telling our story with integrity and style, and produced pieces on budget, on time and in line with discussed visioning each and every time. We have found that their grace and presence behind the camera has put participants at ease and elicited the best most authentic interviews out of everyone they speak with. We're grateful for the ongoing opportunity to work with Ben and Olam films, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone interested.

About

Olam Films works with Indigenous communities, nonprofits, and government agencies on stories that matter. We've spent a decade building relationships with the organizations doing the most consequential work in our region. Many of our clients call us not with a detailed brief, but with a trust that we understand what needs to be said and how to say it well.

We shoot on professional cinema cameras and work with a small, skilled crew. We make cinematic, beautiful work without the overhead of a large studio or the budget that comes with it. We're efficient because we're experienced, we plan carefully, and we don't waste resources on what doesn't serve the story.

But the real work happens before the camera rolls. We listen. We spend time understanding the people and the issues. We care about getting it right because we care about the organizations we work with and the regions we film in.

“I built Olam Films on a simple belief: the organizations doing the most important work deserve films equal to it. The real privilege is getting to tell stories for people who are doing work that matters. When a client succeeds because of a film we made, I feel like I'm part of what they're doing. That matters to me. I care deeply about the stories we tell and about making our clients successful in their mission. That's why I show up.”
