Our Process: Advocating for Marine Protection with Video
For decades, Indigenous Nations have advocated for the protection of their waters on the BC Central Coast with little action from the Provincial and Federal government. In 2022, CCIRA hired Olam Films in partnership with Salmon Nation to create a video campaign to help establish a Marine Protected Area Network.
The Problem
Case Study:
Olam Films was hired to create a video campaign in support of a Marine Protected Area Network on the BC Coast. The videos helped create the momentum for 15 First Nations to come together with the Provincial and Federal government to create the first MPAN in BC.
The Solution
Olam Films created a set of videos to help Coastal First Nations communities understand the benefits of an MPAN. The 5 videos worked in concert to create an effective awareness and action campaign. These videos were widely distributed online during the lead-up to the IMPAC5 international MPA conference in Vancouver.

The Results
In Early 2023, 15 Coastal First Nations along with the Federal and Provincial Governments endorsed an MPA Action Plan to begin the establishment of BC's first MPAN. Olam Films feels honoured to have played a small role in this momumentous step for our coast.
Testimonial
"Working with Olam Films has been a real pleasure, and I hope it’s the first of many collaborations to come. Ben is extremely professional, respectful and sensitive while working in different communities; he listens carefully to the brief; and he consistently goes above and beyond. The result in our work was a set of videos beautifully shot that clearly articulated the shared vision, and a sense of true teamwork throughout the process. Highly recommend collaborating with this company!"
